Online Programs
Courses in online programs are delivered fully online and require no attendance on campus. Online instruction is delivered in one or both of the following formats. The catalog entry for each online program identifies the format used.
- Live class sessions (synchronous). Students and their instructor meet together in real time by videoconference on regularly scheduled days and times. Attendance at scheduled live sessions is expected, just as it is for on-campus class meetings.
- Independent coursework (asynchronous). Students complete structured learning activities, lectures, projects, and assignments on their own schedule within deadlines set by the instructor.
Online programs use these formats in one of three ways:
- Online Live. Instruction is delivered through scheduled live class sessions.
- Online Independent. Instruction is delivered through independent coursework, with no scheduled class meetings. Students in Online Independent courses still receive regular and substantive interaction with their instructors, including direct instruction, timely feedback on coursework, and scheduled opportunities to ask questions about course content.
- Online Blended. Instruction combines scheduled live class sessions with independent coursework completed between sessions.
In every online course, whatever the format, students interact regularly with their instructor through instruction, feedback on coursework, and responses to questions about course content. Online courses carry the same credit and fulfill the same requirements as equivalent on-campus courses.
