SSC310 American Legal System

This course provides students with an overview of the American legal system. An understanding of the law is important to an understanding of the values of American society; this study is essential to the development of students' sense of justice and responsible judgment. This course is intended to help students understand law as a process of restoring, maintaining, and creating social order whose functions are to resolve disputes, facilitate and protect agreement, and constantly examine the legal concepts of a society through maintaining continuity and consistency. The student is expected to develop an analytical and logical understanding of legal principles as opposed to memorization of legal rules as they relate to American public policy, constitutional rights, and contractual obligations.
